The Queensland Government, through the Department of Environment and Science, is seeking the development of a feasibility study and consultation report for premium ecotourism products on Whitsunday Island. The study will look at low-impact, premium eco-accommodation, walking tracks throughout the island to expand on the many existing tracks, and showcase destinations such as Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet. The feasibility is the first step towards delivering on the $5 million election commitment to build a premium product on this island.

The Queensland Government is committed to delivering premium ecotourism experiences that:

  • showcase Queensland’s natural and cultural values and attract local, interstate and international tourists
  • deliver ecologically and economically sustainable iconic experiences that are low impact
  • create local employment prospects, including opportunities for Traditional Owners
  • provide economic benefit for communities and existing tourism operators
  • facilitate ecotourism, recreation, education and heritage experiences.

Suitably qualified organisations can obtain further information on the requirements of the feasibility study by visiting Queensland Government Qtenders.
