Camping in Palmerston (Doongan), Wooroonooran National Park

Henrietta Creek camping area is adjacent to the Palmerston Highway. South Johnstone camping area is 12.8km from the highway down K-tree Road (which may be closed after very heavy rain—check for park alerts).

Camping permits are required and fees apply. Your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Henrietta Creek camping area

Features: grassy camping area next to Henrietta Creek, surrounded by rainforest.

Location: just off the Palmerston Highway, 38km from Innisfail.

Open fires: not allowed—fuel stoves are recommended.

Generators: only generators that operate at or below 65dB(A) when measured 7m from the generator are allowed. Generators may be operated between 9.00am and 6.00pm only.

South Johnstone camping area

Camping area features: partially shady camp sites near the bank of the South Johnstone River.

Location: just off K-tree Road, 12.8km from the Palmerston Highway.

Access: the camping area can be reached by foot and by conventional vehicles. It is not accessible for caravans or motorhomes.

Number of sites: 5 sites (separate but not numbered).

Camp sites are suitable for: walk-in tent camping. Camper trailers can be used in the car park.

Camp site surface: grass.

Facilities: 3 picnic tables with large shelters and hybrid toilets. Creek water is available but should be boiled or chemically treated before drinking.

Open fires: not allowed—fuel stoves are recommended.

Generators: only generators that operate at or below 65dB(A) when measured 7m from the generator are allowed. Generators may be operated between 8.00am and 7.00pm only.
