Cooloola Great Walk and Cooloola Wilderness Trail seasonal closures

This alert applies to the following parks:

As a result of high fire danger conditions experienced over the warmer months causing an unacceptable risk to the safety of walkers in remote areas, a seasonal restriction on bookings for Cooloola Great Walk and Cooloola Wilderness Trail is implemented yearly from 1 November to 28 February.

This restriction affects:

  • Cooloola Great Walk from Freshwater Lake to Harry's Hut
  • Cooloola Wilderness Trail in its entirety
  • all Cooloola Great Walk and Cooloola Wilderness Trail campsites.

The following short or day walks in Cooloola Recreation Area will remain open: to Carlo Sandblow, Double Island Point, Poona Lake, Freshwater Lake, Harry's Hut, Mill Point, Kinaba and Fig Tree Point.

During the seasonal restriction, rangers will regularly assess the fire danger conditions and may open the walks (or sections of the walks) for certain periods of time as conditions allow. For an updated status of Cooloola Great Walk and Cooloola Wilderness Trail check the Cooloola Conditions Report at Cooloola Recreation Area.

For your safety, please do not enter these closed areas and observe all signage and directions from rangers.
