Fraser Island Great Walk Closure

This alert applies to the following parks:

As a result of high fire danger conditions experienced over the warmer months causing an unacceptable risk to the safety of walkers in remote areas, a seasonal restriction on bookings for the Fraser Island Great Walk is implemented yearly from 1 November to 28 February.

This restriction affects:

  • The Great Walk from Dilli Village to Happy Valley.
  • All access tracks to the Great Walk from Hook Point via Jabiru Swamp; from the eastern beach via Markwells's Break, Eurong and Winnam Camping area; and from barge landings at Wanggoolba Creek and Kingfisher Bay.
  • All Great Walk campsites.

The following day walks will remain open: Central Station to Pile Valley, Central Station to Basin Lake, Kingfisher Bay to Z-Force.

During this time, rangers will regularly assess the fire danger conditions and open the walk (or sections of the walk) whenever conditions allow. For an updated status of the Fraser Island Great Walk, check the Fraser Island conditions report at www.npsr.qld.gov.au/fraser.

For your safety, please do not enter these closed areas and observe all signage and directions from Rangers.
