Camping tips for Easter on Straddie

22 March 2016

Easter long weekend is a very busy time on North Stradbroke Island and in the Minjerribah Recreation Area, with many beach camping areas and holiday parks almost fully booked.

To ensure visitors have a safe and enjoyable island escape, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers, along with Straddie Camping staff, will be doing regular patrols on Main and Flinders beaches and camping areas.

Here are a few tips to help plan your escape:

  • Drivers require a valid vehicle access permit to drive on Main Beach and Flinders Beach.
  • Camping permits must be purchased before setting up camp.
  • A maximum of two dogs are permitted per camp site and must be on a leash and under control at all times.
  • Domestic animals are not permitted anywhere in Naree Budjong Djara National Park.
  • Remember to pack some firewood. Always use water and lots of it to extinguish campfires. Severe burns have occurred from fires covered by sand.
  • Fires are strictly prohibited on the beach.
  • Generators may be used between 7am and 9pm only.
  • Pack plenty of rubbish bags for disposal at home, or to use the designated waste disposal sites. Those are at Flinders Beach and Main Beach Causeway.
