Inskip still has plenty of room for Christmas—New Year campers

23 December 2015

Inskip Peninsula has plenty of campsites still available for Christmas–New Year, with bookings showing numbers a little down on last year for the popular area north of Rainbow Beach.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) Acting Regional Director Sunshine and Fraser Coast, Peter Wright, said while Christmas at Inskip was a tradition for many families, New Year was usually the busier time.

“People often leave their booking till the day they start their stay at Inskip, so we’re not surprised the booking numbers are fairly low,” Mr Wright said.

“Rangers are looking forward to welcoming their regulars as well as new campers.

“The recent nearshore landslide had affected only a small number of campsites.

“Visitors will see a new wooden fence around the affected part of Sarawak and Beagle campgrounds, sectioning off an area that would have held about 300 to 400 campers, but other than that the area is open and looking fantastic for the holidays.

“Bookings for Teewah Beach and Fraser Island beach camping areas are tighter. Teewah still has good availability through the holiday period but Fraser is heavily booked, with many of its camping areas booked out over New Year,” he said.

To check availability and book a campsite, go to one of the outlets listed at Over-the-counter camping and vehicle access permit booking offices, or online, or call
