Camping at Lake Broadwater

Lake Broadwater has two camping areas: Lake Broadwater and Wilga Bush. 

The Lake Broadwater camping area is managed by the Western Downs Regional Council, while the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service manages the Wilga Bush camping area.  

Camping permits are required and fees apply. Permits must be obtained before setting up camp.

Park-specific conditions:

  • The maximum length of stay is 21 nights.
  • Light fires only in fireplaces provided or use a fuel stove.
  • Firewood must not be collected from the park.
  • Supervise children closely—especially near the lake.

Lake Broadwater camping area

Features: large, open grassy area overlooking the lake. Toilets, cold showers and picnic facilities are provided.
Location: 30 km from Dalby, adjacent to Lake Broadwater.
Access: turn off Broadwater Road at entrance to Lake.
Number of sites: open area without separately defined sites. Sites are not allocated—choose your preferred site on arrival.
Suitable for: tent camping beside your car, caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes and large groups.
Surface: grass.
Facilities: flushing toilets, showers, picnic tables, tap-water (treat before drinking).
Open fires: allowed in fireplaces only (except when fire bans or prohibitions apply). Fires should not be left unattended. Fuel stoves are recommended.
Generator use: allowed. Please consider your fellow campers if using a generator, and limit the hours of their use to between 9.00 am and 8.00 pm. 
Essentials to bring: Drinking water, rubbish bags (no bins are provided), insect repellent, fuel or gas stove. Bring your own firewood if you want to use the fireplaces. Never collect firewood from the bush.
Bookings: Self-register on arrival. No pre-booking available.
Mobile phone coverage: Not reliable.

Wilga Bush camping area

Features: shady, secluded campsites set within eucalpyt forest. Camp only in the individual, mown campsites located off the road winding through the camping area.
Location: 28 km from Dalby.
Access: Accessible by conventional vehicles (with care) via gravel road turning off Broadwater Road, 2 km before the lake. Accessible for trailers, caravans and motorhomes.
Number of sites: 10 individual nodes and six fireplaces.
Suitable for: tent camping beside your car; walk-in camping; caravans; camper trailers; motorhomes; small groups.
Surface: grass.
Facilities: pit toilets, fireplaces and shelter shed, tap-water (treat before drinking).
Open fires: allowed (except when fire bans apply) in fireplaces only. Fuel stoves are recommended.
Generator use: prohibited.
