Kauri walkers' camp temporarily closed due to planned burn

This alert applies to the following parks:

The Kauri walkers' camp on the Cooloola Great Walk will be closed to public access from 20 - 24 August 2017 while Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) conduct a planned burn in adjoining areas. For safety reasons there is no access to Kauri walkers' camp during this time and bookings are suspended for the period of the closure.

The planned burn is part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests being undertaken to help protect life and property in the event of a wildfire.

Smoke may be seen in the vicinity of Pettigrews Road and Freshwater Road south of Rainbow Beach. Persons with respiratory or other health problems should seek medical advice on mitigating the effects of smoke inhalation.

Observe all signage, barriers and directions from Rangers, and do not enter closed areas.
